Urine Halides (Iodine, Fluoride, & Bromine)

Environmental Toxicity Urine Turn Around Time: 12 Days
Sold out

Description

The Urine Halide Test assesses iodine and exposure to and the retention of the antagonistic and goitrogenic halides bromine and fluoride. Adequate iodine is needed by the thyroid gland for the production, storage and release of thyroid hormones.

Methodology

Iodine and Bromine by ICP-MS

Fluoride in urine is measured using an ion specific electrode (ISE)

When should I use

When iodine status and metabolism is suspected to be suboptimal, for example "sub-clinical" thyroid deficiency, weight gain, loss of energy, goiter and impaired mental function. Iodine is also concentrated in breast tissue where it elicits anti-proliferative effects and protection against fibrocystic breast disease and cancer. Iodine and organic iodine compounds are also concentrated and secreted by the gastric mucosa, salivary glands and the cervix.

Other Details

The test can be performed using conventional random or 24-hour urine collection.
If assessment after administration of a loading dose of iodide/iodine is required see Urine Halides (Pre & Post Loading Combo) (test code NUT02)
