Urinary peptides are incompletely broken-down pieces of protein. The peptides from gluten and casein can react with opiate receptors in the brain, thus mimicking the effects of opiate drugs like heroin and morphine. These compounds, called neuropeptides, have been shown to affect speech, auditory integration, ability to feel pain and cognitive function. This test measures gliadorphin and casomorphin. Gliadorphin is a peptide derived from wheat protein gluten but other related grains such as rye, barley and oats contain a similar sequence of amino acids. Casomorphin is derived from the milk protein casein, which is one of the major proteins found in mammalian milk. These undigested proteins are associated with gastrointestinal, neurological and neuro-developmental disorders and therefore this test may be indicated for autism, PDD, coeliac disease, schizophrenia, chronic fatigue, fibromyaliga and depression. This is a very simple, at home test using 10ml of first morning urine before food and drink.
