Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) can be raised  (along with homocysteine) when there is a deficiency of vitamin B12 in the blood. It is often used as a follow-up to a low vitamin B12 blood test. MMA can also be raised in kidney disease.

This test is for people who wish to establish whether their symptoms are due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. It may help in the diagnosis of pernicious anaemia.
This is a urine test which can be undertaken at home
