Recommended: Contact practitioner before placing order
Turn Around Time: 12 Days

Description

The Epstein-Barr Virus Panel detects IgG or IgM antibodies to various EBV antigens and indicates either past infection, primary reactivation or re-infection with Epstein-Barr virus or herpes type 4. This test measures the following, EBV viral capsid (VCA) IgG, EBV viral capsid (VCA) IgM, EBV early antigen (EA) IgG, EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA) IgG, EBV Nuclear antigen (EBNA) IgM. Following the acute phase, the virus persists mainly in the epithelial cells and B lymphocytes for the rest of the afflicted person’s life.

Methodology

-

When should I use

Consider this test to detect EBV antibodies and potential autoimmunity, relevant for patients with symptoms like fatigue, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, joint pain, and autoimmune diseases.

If the patient is taking steroids, immunosuppressant medications or other medications that may suppress antibodies please check if it is appropriate for them to test.
