A reminder of what the SIBO test achieves
What is SIBO?
SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) is an imbalance of the microorganisms in your gut that maintain healthy digestion. When too many bacteria, or the wrong kind, populate the small intestine, it can lead to uncomfortable symptoms such as gas and diarrhea. It can also inhibit your ability to digest and absorb nutrients from food.
What does the SIBO test measure?
The SIBO test measures levels of hydrogen and methane in the patient’s breath after ingestion of a substrate (either glucose or lactulose).
It does this because, if the patient has SIBO, the substrate will be broken down by bacteria in the small bowel to produce hydrogen or methane gas as a by-product.
How is the SIBO test sample collected?
Our simple and non-invasive SIBO tests are performed at home and requires a 1-2-day preparatory diet and a 12-hours fasting period. Breath samples are collected 10 times over 3 hours.
Which lab do we facilitate the SIBO test for?
Our SIBO tests are analysed by Breathtrackers, a leading global provider of SIBO testing.
