Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) can be raised (along with homocysteine) when there is a deficiency of vitamin B12 in the blood. It is often used as a follow-up to a low vitamin B12 blood test. MMA can also be raised in kidney disease. This test is for people who wish to establish whether their symptoms are due to vitamin B12 deficiency. It may help in the diagnosis of pernicious anaemia. This is a urine test which can be undertaken at home.
This test is a First Morning Void.
